Credit Cards & Shared Credit Cards Overview

  • Updated
This article explains the difference between Credit Cards and Shared Credit Cards, when each is used, and how supplier configuration determines availability.

What is a Credit Card?

A Credit Card is a payment method where card details are securely transmitted directly to the supplier at the time of order.

Used When:

  • The supplier supports cXML order integration.
  • The supplier can process card details through system-to-system messaging.

Key Characteristics:

  • Card details are sent securely via integration.
  • Requires supplier to be PCI compliant.
  • Fully automated payment processing.
  • Not manually visible or reusable across transactions.

What is a Shared Credit Card?

A Shared Credit Card is a stored card managed within the system that can be reused across multiple transactions and users (based on permissions).

The Shared Credit Card feature allows buyers to use a pre-defined, community-managed shared credit card. Ensuring the credit card(s) are available on the Checkout, for buyers.

Used When:

  • The supplier does not support cXML credit card transmission.
  • The supplier has enabled Accept Credit Card, by selecting Yes within their profile.

Key Characteristics:

  • Centrally managed and reusable.
  • Controlled access (who can use it).
  • Used for manual or non-integrated supplier transactions.
  • Does not require cXML integration.
