Switch User & Switch User Edit Settings

  • Updated

This article explains how Community Administrators can switch into other user profiles. To view the platform from their perspective or perform actions on their behalf.

Prerequisites

  • Roles: You must have the Community Administrator role.

  • Permissions: The Switch User or Switch User Edit setting must be enabled for your community.

  • Support Request: If these features are not currently enabled, please contact the Unimarket Support team to request activation.

Switch into a User

Follow these steps to access another user's profile.

  1. Navigate to the Administration module.

  2. Click Users

  3. In the User Name field, enter the name of the desired user.

  4. Click the Search (magnifying glass) icon to locate the account.

  5. Select Switch to enter the user's profile.

Results

Once switched, your view will change to match what the selected user sees.

  • Switch User: You can view the user's dashboard and pages but cannot make any changes.

  • Switch User Edit: You can edit profiles, complete assigned tasks, and save changes. Actions taken while switched in will be recorded in the History tab.

Troubleshooting: Read-only user error

You may encounter an error stating: "That operation is not available as a read-only user" while attempting to edit during a switch session.

  • Verify Settings: Ensure that Switch User Edit (not just Switch User) is enabled for your community.

  • Check Role Conflicts: Ensure your account is not assigned the User Support role in addition to the Community Administrator role.

    • The User Support role restricts editing rights and conflicts with the administrative switch permissions.

  • Solution: Remove the User Support role from your profile, then attempt to switch into the desired user again.

  • Role Logic: A user should have the ability to either edit or not edit; they cannot hold both the User Support and Community Administrator roles simultaneously without causing permission errors.
